5th Annual Scott Bauhs Invite - Pleasanton CA

Saturday, Oct 1st, 2011

Shadow Cliffs Regional Park, Pleasanton CA
3.0 miles all races

Eight grade level races contested today under comfortable weather conditions on the fast Shadow Cliffs course.

Piner's Luis Luna finishes a perfect 4 for 4, having won the Freshman, Soph, Junior and now Senior race over the past four years.  His 14:44 time is a new meet record and probable course record at Shadow Cliffs.  On the day, the Piner boys are strong, grabbing numerous "top ten" Scott Bauhs t-shirts (handed out by Scott's Mom as the meet's namesake is overseas training).

In the days last race, Nicole Lane of El Molino runs the fastest girls time of the day, breaking the 18 minute barrier in a blazing 17:49 mark to edge SRV's Christine Bayless who ran earlier in the day.  Overall, its the Granada girls who continue to set the pace as they run the strongest team times today.

In total, 25 area teams entered runners, with strong fields in each of the eight races despite ACT and SAT testing.

Individual race winners (in order of competition)
Frosh Boys:  Matthew Schumann  - De La Salle     16:16
Frosh Girls:   Christine Bayliss - San Ramon Valley     18:04

Luna's win looked almost effortless. Much like standford, he look quite relaxed for much of the first mile. He was clearly in the lead at the mile mark and never looked back. I believe his time was a course record, eclipsing the mark he set last year. I heard his split at 2 miles was 10 flat and he looked smooth and relaxed while closing at a 4:40 pace for the win.

Its a real shame that he didn't face Fahey ...this would have been a fantastic race.

My question is, when does Luna face his first big challenge of the year. Piner guys told me they are not going to Mt. Sac. Does anyone know if they are attending Clovis?

It's a shame that alot of big names were missing. On the girls side specificaly Carina Novel and Jena Pianin. The frosh from SRV looks solid though.

Luna's time was a course record (previous record was his time last year).
