Justin set for fall success

Justin-Siena 2002 graduate Chris Fidler, who ran cross country for the Braves, is the head coach. The Braves’ leading runners this year are senior Griffin Houtary for the boys and junior Teal Bullick for the girls. Justin has a very large team, with about 40 runners this year, and have thus far had an especially strong showing from some of the freshman boys, who are currently holding a few places in the team’s top seven.

Fidler added that his primary goal is to establish the right atmosphere for the runners because the Braves have many newcomers to the sport, and it’s very important to be able to cater to the faster runners while not leaving the less experienced ones feeling left out.

“In a sport that is not purely about overall team performance, it’s important to encourage the runners to set their own goals for improvement and where they want to be by the end of the season,” Fidler said. “Creating the right atmosphere of camaraderie mixed with friendly competition is a primary goal, especially this being my first season coaching at Justin.”

Fidler’s main expectation for this season is to see every last runner pushing themselves to their personal limit.

“We have a number of very dedicated members this season and I expect that attitude to be present in all runners,” Fidler said. “No matter how fast you are, in cross country you have to give 100 percent of your effort. I’ve seen our runners exemplifying this ideal quite well so far, and fully expect that will continue throughout the rest of the season.”
