NCS Rankings coming up for all divisions

For now, feel free to chime in on who you think are the top 5 teams in each division for both boys and girls.  Who are the top individuals in each division?  Who is under the radar right now but will be a contender in mid to late November?  Who are the top freshmen?  Who has improved the most?

D5 girls are absolutely STACKED this year. Dyestat has 6 NCS teams in the statewide top-10 right now. Before you rank them, remember that Marin Academy's top runner (and defending state champion) Lucy McCullough ran in the Sweeps race so their team time suffered dramatically.

and this year, NCS Division V girls get an additional entry to the state meet (deservedly so). 5 teams get to go to state while the Southern Section goes from 7 to 6.

Imagine that, the teams that get to take on the rest of the state on an equal level do quite well at the state meet.

Blbert,

Thank you very much for keeping track of and providing all your updates to Norcal and in particular to NCS. Now that dyestatcal is in turmoil and I'm not sure when it will get out of its funk, we look to your sites for things that are pertinent to norcal.

No problem. Business has definitely picked up on this site since the transition from Dyestatcal to ESPN Rise. Keep in mind that dyestatcal, while it covered the entire state, was still slanted more toward southern CA since both Rich and Doug resided in that area.

Spread the word about this site and I will try my best to keep highlighting teams and athletes from NorCal.

Speaking of D5. BCL had a meet today (lots of teams, scored dually). University girls narrowly edged out Urban (Given that they were running without one of their top 2). Urban has a strong pack and should be able to make some noise come championship season.

On the girls side, Granada has got to be a factor in D1. Already had good squad and then they add Sophie Hartley.

On the boys side, In D1,College Park, Amador (McCarthy is runnin well the Acret's are still getting in shape), Monte Vista and perhaps De La Salle. In D2, San Ramon, Santa Rosa and Acalanes all look good but not yet great. Washington with super soph Nolan Peterson is also looking good.

A good starting point is the state divisional rankings posted today at the following link:

Acalanes is in D3 not D2.

Correct. Acalanes has been in Division III as long as I can remember.

Keep the comments coming. Any insight you may have in any of the divisions is really helpful.

NCS D3 Girls teams will likely be stacked with DFAL squads... look to today's center meet to see how they stack up - Campo and Acalanes are top two for sure. Beyond that there are three squads that could challenge for the next two slots at NCS along with Maria Carrillo

Aidan Goltra of Las Lomas also has to get a mention as a top freshman. Also, not there yet but keep an eye on rapidly improving Ryan Colaco of SRV.

It would be nice to have a list of top freshmens..similar to dyestatcal "where the freshmens are going?". At least this would be for norcal.

Interesting that the Nor Cal teams are competitive in races with state mandated divisions. Not many 1150 or less schools in the south I guess.

Great idea with the freshmen. I will start on a list. In the meantime, please add frosh who you think belong on the list of top freshmen in NorCal.

Freshmen Aidan Goltra and Gabe Arias are the dynamic duo from the Pleasanton Heat! Possibly the top 2 freshmen in the state...

Marin Academy has a fine freshman runner leading their team. James Kinney. Look out for him.

Sam Kane of Bishop O'Dowd looks very strong. Last year he was the fourth fastest sophomore at NCS championships and this year he's well on his way to the top with a solid seventh place at ed sias.

anyone heard anything about luis luna?

at st mary Berkeley freshmen Spencer Moore. She seems to be a good one...though it was only the JV at the ed sias meet a pretty good time was turned in by Spencer.

Piner is scheduled to run at Scott Bauhs invite this Saturday. Luna had a good race with Parker Deuel there last year and I'd expect we will see these two face off again on Saturday.

how good is Piner this year? Don't seem to hear much about them. Didn't seem them at Stanford.

Piner are facing some injury problems now but they could be pretty deep if they get everything sorted out by ncs. Jaime Silva has made a huge jump this year and has leapfrogged to their number 2 runner and Luis is in fantastic shape. Look for their team to close down the gap by the end of the year.

Who is Piner missing right now? They already have three solid guys. How good will they be?
