Lockert Leads Loyola

Posted by Press Democrat Staff Writer Michael Coit:

Just three meets into his college cross country career, Sterling Lockert, the Petaluma High School record setting runner, has helped lead Loyola Marymount University to strong showings in premier races.

On Saturday, Lockert was the Lions’ top finisher in the college race at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival in Fayetteville, Ark., one of the nation’s top invitational races. Lockert finished 31st in a field of 194 and Loyola was sixth among 29 teams. The teams ahead of the Lions included the winner, No. 4 Oklahoma State, followed by No. 23 Oklahoma and No. 25 Arkansas.

Lockert has steadily improved on already strong times for a freshman runner on the NCAA level. First-year college runners face the challenge of racing over eight kilometer courses compared with shorter high school distances, such as the five kilometer CIF State Cross Country Championships that Lockert ran for Petaluma.

yay, i love it when the PD focuses on only one runner!! it's my favorite! no other runners from the redwood empire have done anything of note-worthy in many years, thank GOODNESS sterling makes up for this glaring lack of success.

So here is your opportunity to mention those runners.

Go!

Anonymous #1. Thank you. It's really nice to get some local love.

Anonymous #2. i sense sarcasm. I've put in the time and work. I don't really appreciate that. And plenty of runners get press. When was the last time you saw my name in the paper? Track season, and it was over shadowed by the fact that Reesey broke the same record i did. hugh dowdy is currently lighting the redwood empire on fire. And jacque taylor has been in the lime light far more than myself. So take your sarcasm somewhere else. Oh. and finally, use your name if you want people to take you seriously.

jacque taylor DESERVES to be in the limelight far more too...

sterling! good job! its frustrating when all the feedback on open forums doesn't contribute to inflating one's own ego. keep up the good work! and i hope you stay loyal to CCxpress throughout your running career so we can all look forward to your insightful posts and selfless (self) promotion of good running.

I really don't appreciate that lerling. Its been long enough that I haven't been in the paper. As I said I am glad to finally be back in the limelight since last track season when Reesey stole all of my attention. Its really sad people don't appreciate all that I have done for the redwood empire, but I want to thank my loyal fans once again.

2 things:

First, if that last post really was you Sterling, I'd like to say that it was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read on this site. Reesey "stole" YOUR attention? It's sad people don't appreciate all you've done for the redwood empire? Are you serious? You are a BIG deal, sir. A very big deal.

Second, I was Anon. #2, and I'll continue to be anonymous here. I'd like to clarify that my sarcastic comment wasn't so much a dig on Sterling but on the Press Democrat's shoddy coverage of running. I don't want to read about a football player's injury and how he's coping with it - I'd rather hear about how a successful athlete like Julie Nacouzi is doing.

I'm done with this, I wasn't trying to insult Sterling. Probably the wrong way to go about criticizing the PD, my bad.

The Real Sterling :P said...

lol. that last one wasn't me. :) but i'm glad someone thought that'd be funny. The maturity is almost so low i'd think it was someone on my team messing with me. :) :) I just gotta get to 40 before the end of the month (right coach caruana?)
