I think you ranked Mountain View a little bit too high. I know they have a couple of pretty good runners in Garrett Rowe and Ian Myjer, but I'm not sure they're going to be the best team in ALL of Northern California.

Based on the rankings on dyestatcal and I have to anticipate with Mt. View and Oak Ridge but they are the final two teams that haven't been ranked yet from Northern CA.

Pre-season rankings are a lot of guess work at this point. Things will clear up pretty quickly once all teams get in a race or two.

We can talk then but I appreciate your input.

BTW who are you and what school are you associated with this coming season?

I would not refer to Garrett Rowe and Ian Myer as "pretty good" runners. Garrett got 2nd in state (not just Nor-Cal!) last year (as a Junior) for all divisions...and if Ian wasn't injured during state he would have been right up there with Garrett.

You also forgot about Parker Schuh. Another "pretty good" (ha ha) runner on MV. He got 64th at state last year for all divisions as a Sophomore.

Also, Mt. View only lost 1 of their top 5 from last year's state roster, and has some very strong runners competing for #4-7 right now. They are incredibly deep this year.

to the first poster. mountain view is easily the best team in Northern California and maybe the entire state. milesplit just ranked them #7 in the US. There's select few Norcal teams whose lead runner can beat MV's third man

how can the rankings be based on dyestat when they're not up yet?

The rankings are based on what Rich Gonzalez has posted so far. He hasn't posted the final 15 teams but it's pretty clear who the last two teams from Northern California that haven't been ranked yet (mountain view and oak ridge).

If you think there is a team or two that is better than Mountain View or Oak Ridge, feel free to state their case.

Based on what they have done the last few years and who they have coming back, the clear number one in Northern California is Mountain View.

I'm wondering why Grace Davis of Modesto is being left out of the rankings, they are returning six of the seven that went to state and who finished 2nd at SJS to Davis Sr. During this whole time they were missing the number 5 runner most of the season. Roberto Rosas was 23rd at state and the 5th JR. across the line.

The first poster might be onto something. As far as I can tell, the top 5 3200 times for MV are Garrett Rowe(8:55), Ian Myjer(9:29), Bryan Crook(10:00), Nicky Lindley(10:17), and Kevin Staatz(10:54).

Not terrible times but those don't look like state-caliber times to me. Obviously they have a great front-runner but it seems to me that the gap is just too much to overcome.

Thank you for adding Grace Davis to the list. I am pretty sure there are other teams that will eventually emerge as well and join Grace Davis and the rest of the teams that have been mentioned already.

As for Mt. View, all you have to do is look at their league final competitors from last season to see the depth of their team.

VARSITY RACE
1 GARRETT ROWE 11 MOUNTAIN VIEW 14:56
2 IAN MYJER 11 MOUNTAIN VIEW 14:57
4 PARKER SCHUH 10 MOUNTAIN VIEW 15:31
12 BRYAN CROOK 10 MOUNTAIN VIEW 16:12
14 ALEX MCGUIRK 11 MOUNTAIN VIEW 16:25

FROSH/SOPH BOYS
1 AUBREY MYJER 9 MOUNTAIN VIEW 16:32
2 NICKY LINDLEY 10 MOUNTAIN VIEW 16:38

JV BOYS
1 CHRIS WELLS 11 MOUNTAIN VIEW 16:43

I thought that MV had a couple of other decent runners - something like McDougal and Welch or something. How come they did not show up here in your 3200 times?

Not Anonymous said...

Oh yeah, McGuirk and Wells. That's it.

They may have done well during xc but judging by track times (more recent than xc), they didnt perform very well. Maybe they just need a switch back to the trails but it seems to me that having only 2 runners under 10:00 isn't a sparkling resume.

For MV, you can't look at last season's 3200 times because 4 of the guys looking to take spots 3-5 either don't run track at all or don't run the 3200. If you only look at 3200 times, then you end up leaving these guys out and pulling in times from other runners that may not make the top 5 this year.

For example, you left out Parker Schuh just because he didn't run the 3200, but (as someone mentioned earlier) he got 64th overall at XC state last year. Parker doesn't run track; however, will be up there with the fastest individual runners this fall in Norcal and in MV's 1-3. But you don't even have him in MV's top 5 - boy, would I love to place a bet with you! :~)

Albert,

Thank you for posting the boys rankings. Will the girls be showing up soon?

Working on it Evan but I will be gone for a few days for a school retreat.

College Park is definitely better than a "honorable mention"

Suzi said...

This is Suzi Rozga from Santa Rosa High, just thought I'd put a thought out there....It was requested that we announce our names and the school we're most closely associated with, but I noticed precious few people actually honoring that request. Is it really that hard to repay the guy who's put so much work into this comprehensive site? Furthermore, it's easy to make statements while hiding behind the name "Anonymous," but once your name is connected to what you're saying, you need to mean what you say AND be willing to accept criticism about it.

It's a little off-topic, but I think it's important to point out :)

Albert Caruana said...

Thank you Suzi. Well put.

If you can only post under the anonymous setting, then do so by adding your name at the end of your post as well as the school you are most associated with this coming season.

Norcal girls' rankings will be posted sometime this week.

alright since suzi is being pretty anal about this, ill rewrite my comment.

Hi im adrian cervantes from college park high school and i am a senior. College park is definitely better than a "honorable mention" on the boys side.
