Who are the Northern California athletes with the best shot of winning a state meet title(s)?

What I did was include athletes whose marks are in the top 3 on the performance list of the trials events. One athlete whose section mark did not make the top 3 in her event but is included in the poll is Justine Fedronic who currently has the fastest time in the state. Feel free to add any athletes who you feel belong in the conversation in the comment box below. (It's been confirmed that Justine Fedronic will not be racing this weekend as she has been diagnosed with a stress fracture)

You may vote for more than one athlete.

You can explain why you voted for a certain athlete and why you feel they have a great shot to win in the comment box below.

Who is a lock to win? Is there such a thing from Northern California? Are there athletes who are locks to win from anywhere in the state?

Can anybody identify what year the picture above was taken and who is the winning athlete?

Thank you in advance for taking part in the poll.

That's Cory Schubert of Del Mar of San Jose who won the Girls 1600m in 4:44.93 in a photo finish over Julie Seleine of University who clocked 4:45.00 at the CIF State Meet back in 1983 in Bakersfield. Paula Bresnan of Kennedy of Granada Hills was third in 4:45.02 with the top 3 finishers within an amazing 0.09 of each other!

Schubert doubled and also won the 3200 easily in a record time of 10:08.14, slicing 4 seconds off the old record. Wendy Sihner of Miramonte of Orinda was 2nd in 10:30.05

I remember this meet because I had graduated one year earlier from Cal and it was the THIRD straight title for the Berkeley High Girls Team!

Berkeley High won the Girls Team title with 29 points, followed by Del Mar of San Jose by virtue of Miss Schubert's double in the 1600/3200.

Good Stuff!

I have seen the 1600 video... is it truly amazing. Greatest female distance double ever at the CA state meet? Wonder if Jordan Hasay could pull that one off...

It is also such a pity about Fedronic's stress fracture... :(
