BCL East League Championships Results and Race Summary

BCL EAST LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS AND RACE SUMMARY

NOVEMBER 11, 2008

2.6 MILES AT JOAQUIN MILLER PARK, OAKLAND

For the second consecutive year, the boys course record was broken on the short but difficult Joaquin Miller Park course. Josh MacDonald from Redwood Christian crossed the line in a time of 14:29, beating the old course record of 14:33 set by Victor Ho of Chinese Christian just last year. Josh will be a definite medal contender at both the NCS and the state championships.

Redwood Christian’s move to a new league and a new section this year was a successful one, as they also won the boys team title over College Prep by a convincing 21 point margin. As has been the case for most of the season, College Prep’s superior team depth could not overcome Redwood Christian’s outstanding top four runners. Both teams are expected to easily qualify for state out of NCS, probably in third and fourth place, behind University and Berean Christian.

Chinese Christian took a very respectable third place with 76 points, while Head-Royce, still missing their number one runner due to injury, could only manage fourth place with 100 points. Both these teams could be contenders for that coveted fifth place position at NCS, but would have to run outstanding team races to do so.

To no one’s surprise, College Prep took the girls team title with 22 points, and will battle it out with University and Marin Academy for the top three team placings at NCS. Head-Royce ran a strong team race to take second place with 54 points, and with the move of Crystal Springs Uplands to the CCS this year, could be in contention for that coveted fourth place position at NCS.

Kai Wilson of College Prep, Adrienne Strait of College Prep, and Jessica Ho of Chinese Christian have been running together at the front of the pack in league races all season. Kai took the win at the league championships, and her time of 17:14 was the second fastest time in league championship history. All three of these runners are possible contenders for individual medals at NCS and state.
