Dublin track star Attarian breaks foot

The bad news is that James Attarian has an injury that won't allow him to compete at the DFAL finals this week. The good news is that there is a good chance he would hardship through to the next meet. We'll see.

The following is from the Contra Costa Times and Phil Jensen.
"Dublin High School boys track and field star James Attarian will not be competing in the Diablo Foothill Athletic League championships this week due to a broken foot, he confirmed Tuesday.

Attarian broke the fifth metatarsal of his left foot while stepping on the inside rail to avoid a fallen competitor in the mile run at the Stanford Invitational on April 5. He proceeded to amazingly kick to a victory in 4 minutes, 15.76 seconds, a time which converted to 1,600 meters (4:14.27) is currently ranked sixth in the state by DyeStatCal.com.

Attarian competed in two more meets, including a third-place finish in the boys invitational mile at the prestigious Arcadia Invitational, before he realized that his foot was broken, he said. He then went to see a doctor, and he found out about the injury.

"When I found out it was broken, I was disappointed. It isn't something you want in the middle of your season," he said. "I can't run on it ... I just found out today I have to wait another two-and-a-half (weeks). The doctor said that in another two-and-a-half weeks, it should be good."

Attarian said that Dublin coach Mike Goldstein is presenting Attarian's case to the DFAL to see if Attarian can hardship through the league championship meet."

You also have to include the South Fork duo of Hank Carl and Michael Radenbaugh. Hank is the defending champion in XC and finished 2nd last year in the 3200 behind Chase Wilson at the Class A meet. Radenbaugh finished 2nd in the 800 last year at the Class A and just ran a 4:24 following by Carl at 4:25 at the Viking.

They will both be very tough.

I am assuming you guys are from the BCL so you know about the guys from our league.

What is Radenbaugh's 800m time?

Tristen Cole (Brian Cole's younger Brother) ran 2:02.6 800m

Radenbaugh ran 2:00.53 at the NCS MOC last year. I am not sure what his best time for this season is but judging by this 1600m. time, he is definitely faster than that.

DO you know what the three CMC runners kicks are like for the 1600m? and where did this guy from Medocino come from?

It looks like the 1600m race will be much faster than last year. Where the second and third place runner both ran only 4:31 and fourth was 4:36. I heard the guy from medocino has a decent kick and that smith does not have much of one. I do not know about nave.

To see the heat sheets for the CMC meet tomorrow (Saturday), you can go to www.pressdemocrat.com/running and click the link to CMC Heat Sheets. You can get a rough estimate as to the times going into the meet.

The top 8 competitors from that meet will qualify to the Class A Meet.
