not concerning the rankings, but how did you not include Kenenisa Bekele in the poll? he has the WR in the 5k and 10k.

Kenenisa Bekele is a great runner as proven by his 2004 Olympics success and his world records. I didn't put him on the list because he still needs a few more years at the top to stamp himself as an alltime great. There is no question that if he wins races in Osaka and then Beijing, he will belong with the runners I listed.

I usually agree with your rankings, but concerning the boys team rankings, how could you not put de la salle in the top 10? 4 out of the top 5 from state trip (all under 17:00) are coming back off solid track seasons and the other man in top 5 ran a 17:01 at DLS/CHS Nike invite.

I appreciate the comment. I am sure DLS will be one of the top teams as I ranked them #2 in Division II behind Petaluma when I did the NCS pre-season rankings. You can check those out here: NCS Division II Pre-Season Rankings

It was really tough trying to cut it down to only 10 teams in Northern California. I am sure there are 5-10 other teams that think they deserve to be on that list as well. I will add the 5 honorable mention teams shortly.

Things will start to fall into place once the season begins.

Thanks again for your input.

Okay, but you missed Greg Drosky, who ran faster than Duffy in track and XC. Leaving out the #1 NCS time (15:18) is inexcusable.

Clayton Valley's Nate Litwiller will break out this year, and perhaps supplant Drosky as top NCS XC runner, with two 5K XC wins in New Zealand against 150+ NX schoolboys in July, after a 14:56 5K in Pleasant Hill 7/4, where he floated very quickly. His 4:21 sophomore 1600 was rare and show the promise that makes him a wise man's choice for top 5 on NorCal list.

Rick, thank you for your comment. This is still pre-season and if any runners belong on the list, they can quickly make their statement in the races. I am simply starting out with a list and will keep updating it throughout the season.

Keep chiming in.

Nicole Hood is no worse than #3 on your list now, right? I give Chetalayat #1 and until Taylor falls directly to Hood in XC, keep her ahead, but it is pretty clear to those watching that Hood (breaking Allen's Newhall record easily in huge margin over George) is ahead of where she left track season with a 10:41 after a 4:53, ahead of Jacque.

Rich, new Norcal rankings were posted this past week and Nicole is in fact #3. Link listed below.

I will have new Norcal rankings coming out on Monday.

Thanks for the input.
